A. O. Smith Introduces First High Efficiency ECM Fan Coil Motor for HVAC Replacement Market

A. O. Smith Electrical Products Company is first to the market with an ECM fan coil replacement motor designed to replace low efficient shaded pole and PSC permanent split capacitor) motors in fan coil and PTAC equipment.

The Comfort Select~ FC motor, CS89, offers quiet operation, premium air quality, and Green Choice^® technology that delivers energy savings and comfort for the environment.

The Comfort Select~FC is a brushless DC high efficiency motor that runs off 120 volt single phase input. The motor is controlled by integrated electronics providing advanced motor protection with the same performance characteristics as a shaded pole or PSC motor.

The Comfort Select~FC is designed as a direct replacement or retrofit product for shaded pole and PSC motors and may be used in fan coil and packaged terminal air conditioner PTAC applications as an energy saving retrofit. As a direct drop-in replacement motor, Comfort Select~FC may be used to replace shaded pole and PSC motors in, Trane, Carrier, Amana, and GE fan coil and PTAC units.

CS89 is a 1/10 horsepower three speed motor that operates at 1100, 900 and 700 rpm. It comes standard with a double shaft that measures 9.3 inches by ½ inch by 9.3 inches and long 54-inch leads. CS89 runs cooler, is easy to install, and has long life ball bearings with rotors that are isolated from the shaft to reduce motor vibration which is important to creating a quiet environment.

Comfort Select~FC is an affordable energy saver. In comparison with shaded pole motors, CS89 provides an average annual savings of up to $180.89 which is a 69 percent savings in kilowatt hours. Most commercial building owners should see a payback in less than one year when changing out the motors in their equipment.
